The Rabbit at Dreamland Industries

The Tarsier never goes out of style, and it seems rabbits also have a similar tendency to stick. The Playboy Bunny is getting a bit too old and reeks of aging males moulded minds, but new additions to the ever growing family of bunnies is waiting in the background eager to take over.

First out in this modernized line of salad devouring mammals are the rabbits made famous by Angry Alien Productions. The creator Jennifer Shiman lets bunnies re-enact movies in 30 (!) seconds and she has to this date created over 25 short films parodying everything from Casablanca to The Ring.

Second addition: France (and Vincent Gallo) has always had a special relationship to bunnies. And until recently this relationship has been a purely national fetish. But now it seems the French take on “the rabbit of the future” is taking over the world. Developed by Violet, it’s called Nabaztag and it’s really cute. Nabaztag is the Armenian word for “rabbit”, but the Armenian connection ends there (except that one of Violet’s brilliant founders, Rafi Haladjian, is Armenian, born in Lebanon). This rabbit is wirelessly connected to the Internet and can provide it’s owners with plenty of information through Violet’s services. It can, for example, (in a more or less subtle way) notify when friends and relatives sends e-mail or connects to Google Talk. What’s interesting with this little critter is that it uses an open API. So if you are comfortable with and interested in the PHP/bunnies connection you should get your own bunny and start hacking away.

Third: If you feel rabbits are all to rare in your life you should seriously consider buying the soon to be released, new iteration of Ubisoft popular franchise: Rayman Raving Rabbids. You will definitely not be disappointed. It’s full of rabbits (or Rabbids). And it’s probably one really good excuse (of many) to buy the Nintendo WII.
